Briony Phillips

Open Data Institute

Briony joined the Open Data Institute for a couple of days a week in June 2013 to look after the Open Data Challenge Series whilst embarking on a learning journey (affectionately known as ‘job shopping’) after finishing a long term role with Teach First. Since January 2014 she has led and facilitated the Open Data Challenge Series four days per week whilst using the fifth day to explore setting up something entrepreneurial for herself, and continuing to ‘job shop.’

Having originally graduated with a degree in Genetics, Briony quickly put it to use as a member of the inaugural cohort of the Teach First programme working as a Science Teacher at Quintin Kynaston School in North London. Two years later, Briony made the difficult decision to move out of the classroom and into the corporate world; she spent two years at Deloitte, in the Consultancy Service Line and a further year in Australia working as a web producer at the global construction company Lend Lease. More recently, Briony spent five years working as part of the Leadership Team at Teach First: as Associate Director Networks and Communities, she was responsible for the engagement and mobilisation of a community of 2000 alumni.
